With the rise of the mini/rebirthed consoles from Retro Games Ltd comes a little “feature” of this software that has cost me countless hours.
Due to limitations of the launcher software on the Amiga Mini / C64 Mini Maxi and “The Spectrum”, folders used for external game storage can only support up to 256 files in a folder. Anything over and above that is not displayed in the UI.
For most people that wouldn’t be an issue but when you’re curating your own collections of ROMs / Games from huge packs it can make the sorting of the files into separate folders a bit of a pain. This is where Lightweight Organiser Variable Enhanced File Indexer Sorting Tool or LOVEFIST makes a very handy application to take the time and stress from this process.
What is it?
LOVEFIST is designed for fisting large numbers of files into organised folder structures with a defined number of files in each folder. Folder names are created using the first number or letter of the file. If the folder will exceed 256 files additional folders are created using the second letter. i.e. A B BI C Co E. No more sorting through files manually.
Usage
Extract and run from the command line Retro32LOVEFIST.exe <foldername> <filesperfolder> i.e. f:\Retro32LOVEFIST.exe f:\Games 256 (as below)

Note that it separates out the number but as above we combined them into one folder of less than 256 files.

I had a folder with 1078 z80 files beginning with S.
Fisted it with 256 files per folder.
I got four subfolders:
S – 770 files
Sh – 49 files
Sp – 135 files
Su – 124 files
At least it’s the right number of files overall!
